June 23rd 2010
Birthdays have never really been that big of a celebration in my family. Usually it plays out like this, parents wake up day of child's birthday, runs out to store, buys a card, sticks some money in it, and pick up a plain undecorated cake. I'm not saying I don't appreciate it, but I know when I have my own life, I'm going to do things differently. You see, I might have stated this before, but I'm a holiday person, and I think its worth doing them up big even just for the memories, so you can say what a fun special time it was. Presents don't need to cost lots of money, maybe just a little thought and meaning behind them, something that is special to them and would be special to me. I love when I get the stupidest presents because someone relates a stupid conversation where I said something that stuck and they stick the corniest thing to them, it shows you care, its super cute and I'll treasure it more than something expensive. Or toonie voodoo dolls, just saying, those also make me happy.
Anyways, it was my brother's twenty second birthday today, again with the last minute shopping, and bland cake, but I got my Jennifer genes out and decorated the cake, it's what I do okay : ) My mom wanted to do something, but anything she asked my dad, he sort of shot down, so I guess we'll stick with what we know.
Above is my father, I think this is the first time I have ever caught a genuine smile on his face, it's funny because Joe looks like he is going to cry, there is actually a story behind this. My mom bought Jeff one of those singing cards, we kept playing it over and over, my mom kept singing it over and over again, and never quite got it right, it was funny because it kept bugging Joe. So we all laughed.
Tis the boy and His cape. Mom put together a travel basket thing for him, filled with money, gas money, maps and the such, it was actually a cool idea.
